Despite some excellent play at times from the team and from individuals, the Logan County 11-12 Little League All-Stars finished 2-2 in tournament pool play last week and didn’t advance to single-elimination play.

As previously reported, they won their opener on a walk-off home run in an extra inning. See that story on The LoJo at http://www.theloganjournal.com/Stories.aspx?Article=sports694,

Their first loss was by a lopsided verdict to tournament favorite and eventual champion, Bowling Green East. Highlights for Logan were Sam Brown’s effective relief pitching over a 2.2-inning stint. Jesse Price just missed a home run, sending the ball just a couple of inches short of the wall.

Then the following day, Logan won a high-scoring affair over Franklin-Simpson 21-13. Coach John Myers’ team pounded out 16 hits.

Anthony Woodard hit two home runs while Macon Barrow, Trevor Scott and Price each hit one. Woodard also singled, Barrow added two more hits, Braxton Baptiste doubled and singled, and John Carter Myers, Zach Yates and Jarrett Sears each had two hits.

Barrow, Myers, Blake Wood, Preston Hurt and Jackson Hampton all pitched in the win.

Logan had to beat Owensboro Southern to advance in the tournament, but it didn’t happen. The al-stars played well but didn’t get timely hits when needed in the 8-5 loss. Down by those three runs in the fifth inning, Logan loaded the bases with no outs but couldn’t get a single run out of it, as Southern pitchers recorded a pair of strikeouts and then got a groundout to end the threat.

Barrow hit a two-run homer and also singled. Woodard and Wood each had two hits while Yates, Baptiste and Sears added one each.

Scott, Hurt, Wood, Barrow, Hampton and Yates all pitched for the Logan County stars.

"It was a great ride and we had our chances. The kids have worked so hard and I was so proud of how they put us in position to win and advance,” Myers said. “Our pool was loaded and we knew it was going to be tough, but I couldn't be more proud of our kids' preparation and effort the last few weeks."
