Murray State University redshirt freshman punter Landon Stratton was named as the adidas® OVC Specialist of the Week for week three of the season Sunday, the league office announced. This is the first career honor for Stratton and the first weekly honor of 2015 for any Racer.

The Russellville native and :Logan County High School graduate finished Saturday's game at Western Michigan with a 40-yard plus average for the first time this season, punting the ball five times for an average of 46.6 yards a punt and a total of 233 yards. The 46.6 yards on Saturday bests his previous season-high of 39.9 yards per punt, set at Northern Illinois.

In addition, Stratton set a new career long of 55 yards and had two 50-plus yard punts for the second time this season. He also placed one punt inside the 20 and tallied one touchback on the night.

He had to punt often because Coach Mitch Stewart’s Racers were losing 52-20 to WMU.

This Saturday Stratton and the rest of the Racers will return to Stewart Stadium to open OVC play against Tennessee Tech. Kick-off for the Family Weekend game is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the game is set to be broadcast on the American Sports Network. Check local listings for times and stations.
