The honors continue for Landon Stratton, a redshirt freshman at Murray State University who graduated in 2014 from Logan County High School, where he exceled at soccer and basketball before joining the football team as the placekicker. He is now the starting punter for the Racers.

After being named Ohio Valley Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, he has been chosen as the Murray State News’ Athlete of the Week”

The student newspaper said, “Landon Stratton was chosen for our Athlete of the Week for his 40 yard plus advantage and punting the ball five times against Western Michigan University for an average of 46.6 yards totaling 233 yards.”

Stratton told the newspaper his favorite part of being a Racer is the team environment. “The team environment is a huge reason I enjoy it. Being on the team really feels like a brotherhood, and we are all working towards the same goals.”

Those goals include winning the OVC, winning some playoff games, and improving every day,

He said his line, his long snapper, and the playing call of the special teams coach helped him win his awards.

Asked to tell what advice he would give others about winning an award like this, he said,“Hard work, dedication, and commitment will get you places in life. And just thank God above for the talents and the opportunities that he has blessed us with.”
