Olmstead sweeps county basketball championships again

Olmstead repeated as champion of both divisions of the Logan County Middle School Tournament Tuesday, holding off late challenges.

With Lady Ranger standout Addie White being assessed three fouls in the first two minutes, Coach Daniel Alvis’ Lady Rams built a 23-6 halftime lead, as Paige and Peyton Vanzant & Brea Croslin scored all the points. Sydney Lee had all six Lewisburg points.

OMS led 35-14 before Hayley Schweers, Abby Hinton & White led a comeback for Coach Brian White’s Lady Rangers. Olmstead won 39-20.

Croslin scored 15, Peyton Vanzant 14 and Paige Vanzant 10 for the champs. Lee had 8 and Schweers 6 for LMS. It was the fifth straight championship for the Lady Rams, who finished the season 24-7.

Auburn led 11-7 after a quarter in the boys’ nightcap, led by Ashton Gregory. The lead reached 18-10 on a Braxton Meguiar 3-pointer, but Coach Todd Gill’s Rams scored the last 13 points of the half, highlighted by a couple of 3-pointers by Brady Griggs.

The Olmstead lead reached 20 at 43-23 on Isaac Walton’s goal, assistedby Nathaniel Vick.

Then Meguiar and Parker White began draining 3-pointers while Kamden Coursey, Dylan Basham and Gregory helped pull the Rams’ lead down to eight twice, including 52-44 at the end.

 

Griggs finished with 13 points, Vick 12, Dalton Thompson 11 and Ethan Haley 9 for the winners. Gregory led with 12 points, Meguiar 11, White 9 and Basham 8 for Coach Josh Hall’s Tigers.
