Three senior members of the Logan County Lady Cougars basketball team were named All-Region after Sunday’s Fourth Region finals at Diddle Arena.

The honorees were center Brooke Barnes, guard Taleia Mason and forward Cierra Johnson.

Champion Bowling Green High placed four members on the honor squad. Logan County was the only one with three all-tournament selections. No other squad had more than two, including runner-up Glasgow.

Barnes was named Southcentral Kentucky Community & Technical College Player of the Game in the Lady Cougars’ 47-41 opening round win over Allen County-Scottsville. She had 10 points, 13 rebounds, 3 blocked shots, a steal and an assist. With the two regional games combined, she scored 18 points and totaled 23 rebounds, 6 blocked shots and 3 assists.

If Logan had held on to beat BGH (the Lady Purples won 60-51), Mason would have been the SKYCTC Player of the Game. She had 10 points, 4 each of assists and rebounds, and 3 steals. She hustled throughout the game.

Johnson was Logan’s most consistent player in the postseason while making big contributions in virtually every game the last month of the season. She scored 15 points and had 2 steals and an assist against BGH. She had 10 points and 3 assists in the win over AC-S, giving her 25 points and 4 assists for the tournament.

The other two seniors, Rachel Barnett and Torrie Pollard, had good games against AC-S, but struggled in the BGH game, combining for 3 of 23 shooting. Still Pollard finished with 8 assists and 19 points and Barnett had 17 points and 11 rebounds in the two games.

Bowling Green won the title by three points over Glasgow, which is coached by former LCHS teacher/coach Justin Stinson.

In the past five years, the Lady Scotties have reached the regional finals four times under Stinson, winning two championships. All three of the losses have come at the hands of BGH.

The tournament was the last for Lady Scotties star Brea Glover, who will play for Ole Miss next year. She has been a key player on all five of those teams.

Bowling Green also won the boys championship. Coach D.G. Sherill’s Purples edged Barren County by three points Tuesday.
