Several Logan County High School athletes have made the news by earning honors and deciding where to play collegiately. The following items are from news releases announced by Athletic Director Greg Howard.
The 4th annual Toyota of Bowling Green check presentations will be held next Wednesday, May 11, at 11 a.m. at Toyota of Bowling Green. Brooke Barnes will be presented with a check in the amount of $500 at that time.
Toyota of Bowling Green is a proud sponsor of the Scholar Athlete program, which was initiated by Sporting Times in 2012. Each school year, senior student athletes are nominated for consideration for the Toyota of Bowling Green scholarship.
Barnes, who played post on three straight district championship basketball teams for Coach Finley Baird, was the December recipient,
“Once again, eleven outstanding student athletes will be recognized for their outstanding achievements and who exemplify the meaning of student athlete,” says Howard, “and our very own Brooke Barnes is one of them.”
On Monday, May 9, at 2:30 p.m., Sierra Morrow, will sign a letter of intent to play volleyball for Kentucky Wesleyan College. Wesleyan plays on the NCAA Division II level.
Morrow was a starting infielder for the Lady Cougar softball team for three years, but gave up the sport this spring to concentrate on volleyball. She has played in club tournaments in several states this spring.
Coach Steven Lyne’s volleyball Lady Cougars often play in tournaments in the Owensboro area, and they know KWC Lady Panther coach Eric Hagan well.
“We are so excited for her and proud of her determination to take her game to the next level. We know she's in good hands!” says Assistant Coach Rob Imlay.
Noah Whittinghill, who has been one of the Cougars’ top basketball players the past two years after returning to LCHS, will sign to play for Lindsey Wilson College Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.in the Commons Area.
As a junior, he helped Coach Lonnie Mason’s Cougars win their first district championship in over 20 years. He had some huge games for the team this year.
Garrison Rosser plans to play basketball for Transylvania University in Lexington. After getting more and more playing time as a sophomore, he was the starting point guard most of the season for Mason’s 2015 district champions. He played both point guard and two guard on the team as a senior starter.
As a youngster, he won awards at numerous summer camps.
Transylvania plays NCAA Division III sports and does not give athletic scholarships. If Rosser’s dream of playing for the Pioneers comes true, he will become only the fourth Cougar in the program’s 34-year-history to play NCAA basketball, joining Fred Tisdale, Adonis Hart and Trey Turner.
Transylvania is one of Kentucky’s top academic schools. Howard says Rosser will be majoring in Neuroscience. He is also a Wendy Heisman award winner.
Howard also has announced that junior Jessica Hines broke a 14-year-old SKY Conference record last Saturday night in the 100M hurdles.
She ran 100M hurdles in 16.25. She also won the long jump with a leap of 15’ 1 ½”, earned a second place in the 300M hurdles (50.43) and joined Taleia Mason, Meredith Johnson and Courtney McGinnis to place third in the 4 X 100M Relay.

This note from Coach Howard Sunday night: “A great weekend for Cougar and Lady Cougar teams! The Logan County baseball team improved its record to 22-7 with a doubleheader sweep over Hopkins County Central Saturday. The Lady Cougar softball team tied the school record for wins in a season Friday night, with a 5-0 win over the Lady Gators of Greenwood. Saturday saw the Lady Cougars bring home a 3rd place trophy from the Raider Classic track meet held at WKU. The Cougar track team tied for 4th with Apollo, at the same meet.
“I urge everyone to show up at LCHS Monday afternoon to cheer baseball and softball on to victories. The Cougars will face Allen County at 5 and the Lady Cougars will face off with Hart County at 5 also. Our Lady Cougars are looking to set the new record for wins in a season and would love to see you hear cheering them on!”

Also, Howard has announced that Jessie Creech will be the new cheer coach at LCHS. The former Jessie Meguiar of Auburn, she is a former Logan cheerleader. Her husband, John Ceech, teaches math in the LCHS Freshman Academy.
Her dad, Eric Meguiar, wa one of the original stars in Cougar baseball. Her sister, Erica Meguiar, is one of the most outstanding softball players in Lady Cougar history. Her cousin, Kapreshia Powell, was a standout basketball and volleyball player for Logan. Her cousin, Ethan Meguiar, is the highly successful long-time coach of Cougar baseball.
