Athletic Director Calvin Head says Russellville Junior/Senior High School was well represented at the Kentucky High School Athletic Directors’ Association Conference this year.

Not only was RJSHS Sophomore Dillon Porter honored for being named to the 2016 All Resilient Team by University of Kentucky sportscaster Tom Leach, but Don Firchow was selected as a 2016 recipient for the KHSADA—Dr; Rudy J. Ellis ‘Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Ellis was a pioneer in sports medicine and was the University of Louisville Athletics team physician for several decades.

The awards were presented on Thursday, April 28 in the PNC Club at Papa John’s Stadium on the University of Louisville campus.

Superintendent Leon Smith, said when notified of Firchow’s award by former Logan County High School Athletic Director Hugh McReynolds: “This is well deserved!  Mr. Firchow, affectionately known as “Mr. Panther,” has been a loyal supporter of all aspects of Russellville Independent Schools, from attending every athletic event possible to mentoring students on all levels. He is well-loved and respected, and we are grateful for our #1 fan!”

Porter, a sophomore, has been battling lymphoma since the first semester of his freshman year. He has continued to be involved in a variety of activities at RHS, from band to swimming to baseball. In fact, he is a starter on both sports teams. He has been honored all the way from Nashville to Lexington.
