Russellville boys basketball players honored

The Russellville Panthers held their 2015-16 awards banquet recently. Coach Phil Todd’s team finished with an 18-8 record, including 17-6 in the regular season. The Panthers were 13th District runner-up to Franklin-Simpson before losing by a point to Russell County in their regional opener.

Jason Mitchell and Ricky Bellamy were the only seniors. Nine different players were honored.

The list of the following award winners was provided by Assistant Coach Ryan Davenport:

Player of the year: Pedro Bradshaw 

Defensive player of the year: Jaylyn McMurry 

Most Rebounds: Pedro Bradshaw 

Most Assist: Pedro Bradshaw 

Best field goal percentage: Pedro Bradshaw 

Best free throw percentage: Pedro Bradshaw 

Most charges taken: Shon Kees

Most Improved: Paul Jones and Jason Mitchell 

110%: Jacob Naylor 

Academic Award: Micah Naylor

Coaches’ Award: Jaylyn McMurry, Pedro Bradshaw, DeShawn Mason, Micah Naylor, Jacob Naylor

Captain’s award: Pedro Bradshaw and Micah Naylor

Academic All-State: Hunter Armistead, Jacob Naylor, Shawn Steele, and Micah Naylor

Academic All-State Honorable Mention: Pedro Bradshaw and Jaylyn McMurry
