Logan County’s Sierra Morrow is the statistical leader of the Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball team, which won its fourth straight match by fighting off Malone in five sets on Friday evening in Canton, Ohio in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The final score of the match was 25-22, 25-23,14-25, 22-25,15-6). Kentucky Wesleyan improved on the year to 6-5 (1-0 G-MAC).
The first set of the match was back and forth with the Panthers leading early on. Malone re-took the lead at 20-17 after winning four straight points. The Panthers re-grouped and took a 23-22 advantage, before winning the final two points of the set.
Kentucky Wesleyan rallied in the second set after trailing 18-12 to win the set 25-23. Morrow won two points off service aces late in the set, including on set point. KWC won the final three points in the set.
Morrow collected two aces, two solo blocks and three block assists in this match.
The freshman, who concentrated on softball early in her career at LCHS before moving her emphasis to volleyball, leads the Lady Panthers or is tied for the lead in seven statistical categories, including sets played with 48. Sophomore Nicole Venema is the only other team member to have played in every set. Juniors Gabrielle Gallois and Audrey Basinger have played in 47 each and sophomore Hannah Pierce in 45. She is unquestionably the top freshman on the team.
Morrow also leads the team in aces (16), attack percentage (.231), aces per set (0.33), blocks (8) and blocks per set (0.67). She also is in a tie for first in service error receptions with none. She is fourth in kills (82) and attacks (212) and fifth in assists (12). She also has 25 digs.
She is coached by Eric Hagan, who is in his third year on the job after having been an assistant coach the four years before that.
