The Logan Lady Cougars played three games in the R.E. Williams Holiday Classic at LaRue County High School in Hodgenville the week before Christmas. Two of them were close and they went 1-1 in those games.

First came a 49-46 loss to Bullitt Central. Freshman post player Kennedy Nichols led the way for Logan with 10 points, hitting 5 of 7 shots. She also had four rebounds.

She was one of 10 Lady Cougars who scored. The others were Abigail Lindsey and Logan Williamson with 7 each, Blayke Bingham 5, Ann-Meguiar Bouldin and Jessica Hines 4 each, Sarah Hale and Peyton Vanzant 3 each, Jamica Key 2 and Paige Vanzant 1.

The Lady Cougars struggled from long range, going 3 of 14 on three-pointers. Hale hit her only attempt from that area and Bingham was 1 of 2. Williamson hit the third.

They were even colder at the foul line, going 7 of 20 there, even though Bingham was 2 for 2 and Peyton Vanzant 1 for 1.

On the opposite side of the stat sheet, Sierra Graham scored 19 points, 13 of them coming on free throws. She attempted 16.  That overshadowed her 2 for 10 field goal misfiring and Katlin Graham’s 0 for 5 three-point shooting.

The following day, Coach Finley Baird’s team beat Union County 55-51. Nichols, who didn’t have a uniform number when the season began, put together a big game with 19 points and 8 rebounds.  She hit 7 of 10 field goal attempts and 5 of 6 free throws. Bouldin had 13 points and Hines 9.  Key and Hale pulled in 4 rebounds each.

In earlier games:

Freshman Addie White led the Lady Cougars in the first varsity game of her high school career. She hit all three of her three-pointers and her only two-point shot on the way to 11 points at Edmonson County. Another freshman, Peyton Vanzant, was three of seven from the field, including hitting her only shot behind the arc. The rest of the team went 9 of 37.

Caitlin Simon scored 36 points and Peyton Martin 18 for Kevin Jackson’s Lady Cats in the 74-35 Edmonson win.

*Hines scored 8 points and Bingham 6 in a lopsided loss at Russell County.

*Eight players scored in a 57-44 loss to visiting Hopkinsville. Hale and Hines totaled nine each with Bouldin and Lindsey getting 6 each. Paige Vanzant and Williamson added 5 each. Also scoring were Brittany Garrett and Bingham.

*In a 50-40 loss to Franklin-Simpson, Bingham and Hines scored 10 each and Peyton Vanzant added 7. Hines hit 5 of 10 shots from the field, and Bingham 4 of 6. Two of Bingham’s field goals were 3-pointers. She was 2 of 3 from that range, but the rest of the team missed all 14 of their tries from long distance. Hines matched her 10 points with 10 rebounds.

Jessie Beller scored 22 points and Osheonna Baker 16 for Coach David Clark’s Lady Cats. Tristany Lunsford added 12. No other F-S player scored. Beller also had 10 rebounds and Baker hit 10 of 13 three-pointers.

*In a very low-scoring game, Hines scored almost half of Logan’s points in a 37-30 loss at Ohio County. She scored 14 points on 2 of 3 three-pointers and 3 from short range. She was also the leading rebounder with 6. Lindsey was second in scoring with 7.

*In a 59-52 loss to visiting Warren Central, Hines scored 13 points. Williamson added 9 and Bouldin 7. Williamson was 2 for 2 on three-pointers. Hines had 8 rebounds but no one else pulled down more than 3.

Zakoria Hill scored 26 and Karajah Leach 19 for Coach Joe Hood’s Lady Dragons.

*Peyton Vanzant scored 11 points in a 68-41 loss to Owensboro Catholic

NOTE

With changes in the coaching staff, The LoJo no longer receives stat sheets after Lady Cougar games, and the Kentucky High School Athletic Association does not publish assist, steal and blocked shot totals. The guess here is that several Lady Cougars would have impressive numbers in the assists and steals category, including sophomore guard Carlie Alvis.
