Calvin Head, who is in his third year as athletic director of Russellville High School, has been named Athletic Director of the Year for the Fourth Region.
Principal Kim McDaniel received the following email from Jonathan D. Vincent, the Warren East athletic director who is president of the Kentucky High School Athletic Directors Association:
“I wasn't sure if he would tell you or not but at our policy board meeting today, Calvin was named our 4th Region Athletic Director of the Year. He is a modest person who works hard so I wanted to make sure you knew. He is a blessing to our AD Association, policy board, and the region as a whole, as I am sure he is a blessing to your school as well.”
McDaniel, said, “Please join me in congratulating this amazing coach, educator, and mentor! Thanks for always making sure that our kids get the best opportunities, Coach!”
Among many congratulations and well wishes he received, one came from Superintendent Leon Smith, who said, “Congratulations, Coach Head! We are blessed to have you in the Russellville District! You have done an outstanding job leading our athletic program and have revived our middle school programs as well. Very well deserved! Also a great classroom teacher!”
A graduate of Todd Central High School where he was named one of two representatives of the Fourth Region on the West squad of the East-West Game in Lexington as a senior in 2006, Calvin Head returned to his alma mater to be head boys basketball and Lady Rebels softball coach.
Shortly before announcing his decision to give of the athletic director’s post at RHS, Nathan Thompson named Head the Russellville girls basketball coach. He continues in that role along with coaching Lady Panther softball. He was named Russellville’s AD when Thompson gave up that position.
Head has been successful in organization of the athletic program and in building support for all the teams. He’s especially good in keeping the public and the media informed about what is happening in RHS athletics.
