Bouncing back from their first loss of the season the day before, the Logan County Cougars scored 21 runs Saturday in a romp past Metcalfe County.

On Friday, Grayson County edged the Cougars 4-3. Coach Ethan Meguiar started a pitcher who wasn’t on last year’s 29-win roster. Junior Price Brown worked the first three and a third innings. Sophomore Koby Wall pitched the other three and two-thirds innings.

Grayson (also named Cougars) scored one run in the first inning and three in the fourth.

Logan County scored its three runs in the fifth. Nick Wooden and Dylan Penick were each credited with an RBI.

The Cougars had a chance to win the game in the final inning by putting two runners on with two outs. Austin Rayno drove the ball to the fence, but it was caught to end the game.

Logan County bounced back in a big way Saturday.

Kaleb Justice was The Man at the plate. He homered, doubled twice and singled while driving in six runs. Bradley Taylor and Rayno each added three hits. Jackson Campbell added three RBIs. Additionally, Jack Wright, Nate Woodall, Third Bell, Campbell and Penick had multiple hits.

The Cougars scored 11 runs in the third inning. Taylor doubled, Bell and Woodall singled, and Justice homered and singled in the inning.

Again Meguiar experimented with the pitching. He moved Campbell—who is one of the state’s best catchers—to the mound to start the game. Campbell threw six strikeouts in just three innings with 10 of his first pitches to batters being strikes, but the defense all over the field was at best shaky while he wasn’t in his normal position. Campbell was the winning pitcher.

Ashton Ross pitched in relief for the Cougars.
