Building a lead and then holding on for dear life, the Logan County Cougars edged a strong Clarksville Northwest 11-10 on the road Saturday.

Starting pitcher Dylan Penick was in charge early, pitching five shutout innings, but he seemed to tire in the sixth. With two Rossview batters on base, Coach Ethan Meguiar pulled Penick and brought D.J. Beard to the mound. Beard did good things but didn’t have his best control as he comes back from a hand injury.

Koby Wall pitched the final two innings and was the winning pitcher, even though the extra inning was something of a nightmare for him.

Logan scored five runs in the top of the eighth inning, but Rossview came back to score four in home half of the inning. That fifth run proved to be crucial in the 11-10 win.

For the Cougars, first baseman Kaleb Justice had four hits, three of them doubles. He drove in three runs and scored three.

Austin Rayno was the only other Logan player with multiple hits. He singled twice, scored two runs and stole a base.

Third Bell added a fourth double for the Cougars while Penick and Wall added a single each. Wall drove in two runs.

Jackson Campbell and Rayno were each hit by two pitches. Penick and Bradley Taylor were also hit by a pitch. Taylor scored two runs with Jack Wright, Campbell, Penick and Bell scoring one each.

Coaches Meguiar and Kyle Wall have been checking out several pitchers to see who should join Penick and Ethan Smock in the starting pitching rotation while Nick Wooden continues to work through a sore shoulder. Wooden did play in the outfield in this game.

Logan ran its record to 9-1 with the win.
