Eighth grader Abby Hinton played a huge role in Logan County’s thrilling 3-2 win over visiting East Robertson Monday. She not only pitched the win but slugged a walk-off double to drive in the game-winning run.

Sophomore Pressley Harris walked to lead off the seventh inning, moved up on Jillian McLellan’s walk and scored on Hinton’s clutch hit to end the game. McLellan and Hinton are the number eight and nine batters in the lineup/

Coach Brandy Trimble’s team had scored their other two runs in the first inning, produced by three freshmen. Sydney Lee worked a one-out walk before Kennedy Nichols and Abby Canler each doubled. The runs were scored by Lee and Nichols, who had homered earlier in the season against Metcalfe County.

Harris and Lee each finished with two hits. Blayke Bingham added a hit.

Only one of the two runs Hinton allowed was earned. She gave up four hits, including a homer, but walked just one East Robertson batter. She struck out three. She threw a first-pitch strike to 22 of the 28 batters she faced, and 48 of the 64 pitches she threw were strikes.

Lady Cougars split with Jo Byrns

In the Lady Cougars’ previous outing on the day befpre Logan took time off for spring break, freshman Brea Croslin doubled in Nichols with the winning run in the seventh inning against Jo Bryns.

Logan had entered the inning trailing by a run. With an out, Lee tripled and then scored on an error. With two outs, Croslin doubled Nichols in with the winning run by a 7-6 count.

Lee had a huge game. She walked in the first inning, reached on a two-base error and scored in the third, homered in the fourth and then tripled and scored the tying run in the seventh. She had three RBIs and scored three runs.

Croslin also had two hits, both of them doubles, including the game winner. Harris and Nichols also doubled. Freshman Shaina Johnson added a single.

Hinton gave up the six runs on 10 hits; 4 of the runs were earned. She walked two and struck out three.

The Tennessee school won the other game of the doubleheader 8-5. Lee took the loss on the mound, giving up eight runs on 12 hits. She struck out five.

On offense, Lee and Kennedy each doubled. Lee added a single. Other hits were by Canler, Croslin, McLellan and Johnson. McLellan scored two runs with Harris, Croslin and eighth grader Hailey Collins scoring one each.
