Both RHS track teams place third at region

Both Russellville teams placed third among 11 schools in their Class A regional track meets Saturday at Green County High School.

In the girls division, Owensboro Catholic scored 168 points, Hancock County 105, Russellville 67, Butler County 53 and Glasgow 47. A total of 11 teams fielded entrants. Among the boys teams, the top three were the same with O-Cath scoring 131, Hancock 100, RHS 92, Cumberland County 61 and Glasgow 52. Frederick Fraize had a girls team and not a boys while Caverna tied McLean County for eighth among the boys but had no girls team.

Sprint events carried the Lady Panthers. Sarianna Allen and Tatyana Peterson finished first and second in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Allen ran them in 13.01 and 27.38. Peterson’s times were 12.42 and 27.47. Those two races totaled 36 points for Coach Paulette Smith’s team.

Allen and Peterson were joined by Makayla Davis and Anastasia Dowlen in taking first in the 4 x 200-Meter Relay with a 1:51.83. Owensboro Catholic finished second, two and a half seconds later.

That dsame foursome placed second in the 4 X 100 Relay with a time of53.70, the same time as first-place Owensboro Catholic. Glasgow was two seconds behind them.

Triple Jump: 3) Jolanda Wells, 30’

Long Jump: 4) Wells, 14’3.5”; 10) Tatyanah Townsend, 11’9.5”

100-Meter Hurdles: 5) Destiny Higgins, 20.00

300-Meter Hurdles: 6) Higgins, 58.97

400-Meter Dash: 9) Townsend 1:10.88; 13) Kaylee Wright, 1:21.49

In the boys division, the sprinter leading the Panthers was junior Javaran Robey with a second place finish in the 100 with an 11.55 and a third in the 200 with a 23.64.

Robey was also a member of the first-place 4 x 200 Relay team along with Paul Jones, Deshawn Mason and Jaylyn McMurry. They ran the approximate half mile in 1:32.87, almost two seconds ahead of Glasgow.

McMurry also recorded a first in the 400-meter dash with a 51.80. Jones placed seventh with a 55.62.

Mason won the 110-meter hurdles with a 17.18, almost a second and a half ahead of Christopher Price of O-Cath. Panther Mark Wynn was third in the 300-meter hurdles with a 48.68.

Mason got his third first place in the long jump with a leap of 19’2.5”.

Adding to his super day, Mason placed second in the triple jump with a hop, skip and jump of 41’10.5”. In that one he finished second to teammate Johnny Drumgole, who total 42’2”.
