After 36 years of service, Craig Givens, District Conservationist with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), announced his retirement effective on Dec. 31, 2021. Givens served the agricultural community here in Logan County for 26 years.
Givens, originally from Green County, graduated with a Batchelor’s degree from Western Kentucky University and later received his Master’s degree from Iowa State University.
In 1985, he joined NRCS as a student trainee assigned to Logan County. After graduation from WKU, he returned to Logan County to begin his full-time career. In 1987, Givens left Logan County to gain more experience before accepting the District Conservationist position here in Logan in August 1995.
He has helped countless ag producers protect their natural resources over the years through the installation of agronomic and structural practices. His respect and affection for agricultural producers was evident through his dedication to protecting the natural resources wherever he served.
Givens and his wife Markita reside in Auburn and have one son and two granddaughters. While his time with family will be top priority, he doesn’t plan to disappear from agriculture or the conservation community. While he will be missed here serving Logan County and NRCS, we know this new chapter will include serving others.
The Logan County Conservation Districts will honor Givens with a retirement celebration on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at the Logan County Extension Office from 1-4 p.m. Please stop by and wish him well as he transitions to this new chapter.
