McLeans absent from dream game
Today's Music City Bowl in Nashville usually would have found former Russellvillians Porter and Linda McLean enjoying themselves watching their favorite team(s). The McLeans met and married as students at the University of Kentucky, which is one of the participants in today's bowl. Their daughter Mandy, however, played her collegiate soccer at Northwestern University, the other team in the Music City Bowl. And they could have visited with their brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Betty McLean of Russellville. They don't have to decide which team to support publicly today, though, since this is their 50th wedding anniversary and they are celebrating with their extended family in Chicago and Wisconsin. The McLeans are still relishing the World Series championship 14 months ago recorded by their beloved Chicago Cubs.

Sindelar, Brohm, Holt leading
Purdue in bowl game
Some guys who know Russellville are directing the fortunes of the Purdue Boilermakers in the Foster Farms Bowl on Fox television. Jeff Brohm, who turned the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers into the best team in Kentucky by the end of the 2015 season, is now doing the same thing for Purdue, which had been the doormat of the Big 10. Now his team is leading Arizona 28-14 midway through the second quarter. Quarterback Elijah Sindelar has thrown three touchdown passes. Sindelar of Caldwell County played baseball against Logan County High at LCHS and basketball against Russellville at Jim Young Gymnasium in the First Southern National Bank/Roy's/WRUS Christmas Classic. The defensive coordinator for Purdue is Nick Holt, the former WKU defensive coordinator who was passed over for the Toppers' head coaching job when Brohm left last season. Purdue statistically is the most improved defensive team in the nation. Feix Field,on which WKU football plays its games, is on an extension of Russellville Road.

Pedro Bradshaw no longer
part of Belmont basketball
When Belmont University visits WKU tonight in a matchup of two of the nation's traditionally top mid-major men's basketball programs, Russellvillle's Pedro Bradshaw will not be in a Belmont uniform. A first-team all-stater and Mr. Basketball finalist while playing for the Panthers last year, Bradshaw had been dressing for Bruins' games but had not appeared in one. Late in the semester, Bradshaw asked for his release and Coach Rick Byrd and the university granted it. He finished the semester academically. Belmont Athletic Media Director Greg Sage tells The LoJo that he was released from his scholarship unconditionally and can enroll in whichever institution and basketball program he chooses, even fellow OVC schools. If he enrolls in a college for the second semester, he should have at least three and a half years of eligibility remaining. Bradshaw was at Diddle Arena Saturday to watch the Toppers' romp over Indiana State.
