Playing shorthanded didn’t stop the Russellville Lady Panthers Thursday. Having a power play set up the entire match didn’t help the McLean County Lady Cougars.

Coach Eric Evans has 15 Lady Panthers on his roster. Eleven players are to be on the field at a time, but RHS was one short and played the entire game with 10 on the field. Freshman Malley Jayne, who had played in the season opener earlier in the week, was not available for action.

And still the Lady Panthers got the road win 1-0 on Emily Stapleton’s goal.

Goalkeeper Aliyah Kennedy pitched the shutout, stopping all eight of McLean’s shots on goal.

Also playing for the winners were Reese Croslin, Anastasia Dowlen, Ahlyne Dowlen, Crissy Higgins, Jasminhe Kennedy, Jermani Morris, Madison Penrod and Chloe Shumate.

Todd Central 4, RHS 0

The Lady Rebels got this win in what was both the season opener and the district opener.

Coach Matthew Harper’s team got two goals from Madison Henderson along with one each by Jennifer Flores and Tamiya Foster. Samantha Case was the goalkeeper in the shutout.

Also playing for the Lady Rebels were Ana Anastacio, Jazmen Bradley, Ciara Collins, Darby Delph, Lyndi Hall, Stacey Lopez, Hannah Oliver, Itzel Salazar and Nikita Shutts.

All A Classic

Both Russellville and Todd Central will play in the regional All A Classic Saturday. The Lady Panthers meet Glasgow at 3 p.m. Todd Central faces Monroe County. They are hoping for a rematch in the second round.
