Cougar Boys Soccer wins 3 of first 5 matches

By winning three road matches by lopsided scores, the Logan County Cougars got off to a strong 3-2 start in the 2025 season. But three straight losses in which they scored only one total goal have left them with a 3-5 record, including 0-3 om the 13th District.

Here’s a look at some of their matches:

Cougars 7, Fort Knox 2

Sophomore Asher Woodall had a tremendous offensive game, scoring three goals and assisting on two more.

Also piling up points was senior Andrew McCall, who scored twice and added an assist.

Scoring a goal each were freshman Yonis Escalante and junior Billy Agustin Palafox. Adding two assists each were senior Caleb Cardenas and junior Sebastian Hernzndez.

Sophomore goalkeeper James Bryan was credited with two saves.

Also seeing action were Hiram Escobedore, Trapper McCarley, Brayden Richmond, Bently Rye, Christian Scarbrough, Ethan Scarbrough, Brayden Spain, Phoenix Tatum, Ezekiel Veigel, Martin Veigel, Felipe De La Cruz-Reyes, Caleb Fulkerson, Layne Harris, Oliver Holloway, and Gibson Kirby.

Cougars 5, Monroe County 1

The statistics submitted to the KHSAA did not report who scored the goals. Instead, it lists seven Cougars who played goalkeeper, all but one of them sophomores. Bryan was credited with two saves. Kaden Sells—the senior—had a save, as did Asher Woodall, Hernandez, Holloway, and Ethan Scarbrough. William Johnson, the backup goaltender, gave up the goal.

Among those playing was Casey Slaughter.

Cougars 8, AC-S 0

Unfortunately, no statistics were posted for this match which the Cougars dominated.

Todd Central 3, Cougars 1

In this district match, Woodall scored the Logan goal. James turned away seven shots but allowed three goals.

Freshman Spencer Pool scored twice for the Rebels with John Ross Cardwell getting the other. Samuel Perez-Camillo added two assists.

Goalkeeper John Mark Campbell had five saves while allowing Woodall’s goal.

FSHS 2, Cougars 1

The LoJo has previously reported on Logan’s 1-0 loss in the Clash of the Cats to Russellville. (http://www.theloganjournal.com/Stories.aspx?Article=sports1717 )

The Franklin loss dropped the LCHS record in the district to 0-3. Logan statistics have not been reported.

Coach Trevar Gray’s team returns to action Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against Allen County-Scottsville.
