Competing against some of the traditionally great athletic programs in the state, Logan County track qualified 18 athletes in 14 events (five of them relays, 7 events each for the girls and the boys) at regionfor the Class 2A state track meet as the school year neared an end.

Nine of the Coach Elijah Sells’ tracksters were in the boys division and nine in the girls. All but four of them qualified in multiple events.

Leading the way was Ava Cowan, who made it in the maximum four events. At state, she finished fourth in two jumping events. She had broken the school long jump record earlier in the season. It had been held for 38 years by Cougar Hall of Famer Tracy Mason. Last year, senior Nia Scipio broke it. Then in April, Cown jumped 17-8, which was not only a new LCHS record but also ranked her first in Class 2A.
