Getting both outstanding pitching and hitting, the Logan County 11-12 Little League All-Stars go into Monday’s third game with a 2-0 record and some sparkling statistics. They’re outscored their two opponents by a 16-1 margin.

On Saturday, Logan beat Franklin 6-1. The offense banged out eight hits and a trio of pitchers didn’t give up an earned run. Braxton Meguiar banged out two doubles. Dalton Dean had three RBIs on a hit and a sacrifice fly. Parker White, Dylan Penick and Jacob Smock each had a hit and an RBI. Macon Barrow and Third Bell also got hits.

Penick was the starting pitcher and threw 20 pitches before being taken off the mound to keep him eligible to pitch the following day. He totaled three strikeouts, one walk and no runs. Winning pitcher White then worked three and a third innings, using only 35 pitches in the process. He gave up two hits and an unearned run while striking out three. Dean needed 20 pitches to work the final inning and a third. He, too, had three strikeouts while allowing one hit.

Franklin didn’t mount a threat until late in the game. After they had gotten two hits, White induced a comebacker to the mound.  He hesitated before throwing to third and the ball went into left field, allowing the runner to score. Leftfielder Jaden Hayes, however, threw the ball to Penick at third to gun down the second runner.

White then got a sharp ground ball to Meguiar at short. Meguiar fielded it cleanly, stepped on second and threw to Dean at first to end the threat on a double play.

Then on Sunday, Logan recorded an impressive 10-0 win over Warren North in four innings. Penick and Meguiar combined on the shutout. Penick worked an inning and a third, giving up two hits and striking out two. Meguiar worked the last two and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and fanning four.

Meguiar had three hits to go along with his two from the day before. Penick homered, tripled and had five RBIs. Bell also homered and tripled, driving in four runs. The other RBI came from Dean, who had two hits. Austin Rager joined him with a pair of hits while White, Smock and Hayes also got hits as the team totaled a dozen safties.

Logan, which is coached by Ethan Meguiar, Jason Hayes and Kevin White, plays Owensboro Southern at 6 p.m. Monday and Bowling Green East at 2 p.m. Tuesday. All games are at Ephram White Park in east Warren County,

The top two teams in the district advance to state.
