Cougar soccer wins season opener

Senior Erik Williams scored four goals, three of them in the first half, to led the Logan County Cougars to a 6-4 soccer win over visiting Dawson Springs Thursday at the Russellville Recreational Complex.

Coach Eric Evans’ team led 401 at the half. One of Williams’ goals came on a penalty kick. The fourth goal was kicked by senior Ashton Ross on an assist by senior Coby Foster.

The Cougars’ two second-half goals came on a kick by Williams, and on a penalty kick by junior Garrett Wilhelm.

The Panthers scored their second and third goals in the second half.

In the official stats, starting goalkeeper Jonathan Furlow allowed only one goal. Foster had two assists with junior Cameron Fagan, freshman Nicholas Petrie and Williams getting one each.

Also seeing action were Thomas Bilyeu, Camden Bond, Noah Bray, Jon Allen Cherry, Luke Davenport, Matthew Edgar, Ethan Haley, Jaden Hayes, Conner Hopkins, Evan Hughes, Caleb Jenkins, Sydney Johnson, Kaleb Justic, Josh McKinney, Isaac Phillips and Dalton Taylor.

The Cougars play host to Franklin-Simpson Tuesday in rematch of last year’s district finalists. The match starts at 7 p.m.
