LCHS JROTC, FFA shine in major competitions

We hope everyone had a good first week back. Our teachers have taken time this week to remind the students of the academic and behavior expectations. We will continue to maintain procedures throughout the last six weeks of school to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment.

APES

Congratulations to Jaden Hayes for being the top scorer on the American Private Enterprise System (APES) program this past week. He advances to state competition in June.

UK Camp

Chinese competition (from teacher Qiang Zhang)

Our Chinese class had three students participate in the second session of Chinese Bridge Competition held by CI at WKU. Their parents also went there with them. And I feel proud to inform you that our 10th grader, Brendon McKinnis, won the second place in Chinese speech competition among around 30 high school contestants from different parts of Kentucky.

Recently, the LCHS JROTC participated in the last drill team and color guard competition for this school year the year. The results follow

LCHS JROTC took home the Overall first place trophy for the competition. 

The members of the team are:

From Russellville High School: senior Bree Lewis and sophomores Kaleigh Hughes and Madison Creek

If you see these fine young men and women please congratulate them on their performance. On another note they were complemented by patrons of the restaurant where we ate on their manners and politeness. I was very proud to be associated with them. A special thank you goes out to Coach Lee Proctor, who allowed to use the auxiliary gym during his class time for last minute practice and rehearsal.

We had a successful FFA Paper work competition over the break at WKU Ag Expo. Students prepared their record books for their SAE area and competed against 11 other schools in our region. The student Proficiency /SAE area and results of the contest are listed below. The students with an S1 rating will go on to Rupp Arena this summer to compete at the State level.

The ceremony will be held Sunday, May 27 at 4:00 p.m. at Diddle Arena on WKU’s campus.

Scheduling update (repeat info)

The counselors are going to postpone going into classrooms until and scheduling individual appointments until the end of April/first of May due to the state budget delay and EOC testing being April 16-27 this year.
