When I approach people to discuss the importance of family literacy and adult education, people ask me why they should care. What makes family literacy and adult education so important to Russellville?
Answers can be long and complicated. Beyond the immediate reward that each of our students feel when they have accomplished a lifelong goal of earning their GED, adult education reaches beyond the boundaries of Logan County. When any individual learns how to read, write, perform basic math functions, their standard of living improves. Self-supporting job opportunities become available that had never been available before.
On a national basis, low literacy rates add an estimated $230 billion to our national health costs. Logan County Adult Education works hard to help improve the lives of many local citizens. In an effort to help Logan County understand what we do here, all year long, we are celebrating National Family Literacy Week from September 23-26. Please visit our Professional Learning Center at 121 South Spring Street in Russellville.
Visit our Learning Center and a staff member will be happy to guide a tour of our facility. The Learning Center is open Mondays and Tuesdays 8 a.m. -6:30 p.m. and Wednesdays and Thursdays 8 – 4 for tours.
