On Thursday, Feb. 4, Auburn Preschool classes hosted an Art Gallery, a culminating project created through the collaboration of preschool teacher Andrea Coleman, student teacher Molly Clark, preschool substitute teacher Nina Holman (for teacher Andrea Scott), and paraprofessionals Dianna Thomas and Erika Watkins.
The artwork in the gallery were pieces the preschoolers have created over the past four weeks under the Museum Unit. Parents and family members were invited to tour the gallery and enjoy light refreshments with their preschool student from 4-6 PM.
The students thoroughly enjoyed letting their artistic side shine throughout these four weeks! Preschool students were inspired to create many of their artworks through literature connections read in the classroom. Matthew’s Dream by Leo Lionni motivated students to create abstract art; Francie Alexander’s Dots! Dots! Dots! led to creating art through multi-colored dots; and I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More! by Karen Beaumont had students tracing their arm and then painting it.
With all the artwork combined, preschool students created over nine different forms of artwork: sand paper art, window art, yarn art, abstract art, dot art, three-dimensional art, music art, and wooden sculptures.
The night of the Preschool Art Gallery over 130 parents, siblings, family members and friends came to view their preschooler’s masterpieces. It was wonderful to see the joy on the children’s faces as they led their family members through the Gallery showing them their artwork.
The Art Gallery was my student teaching leadership project. I was blown away with what the children learned during our days of creating art. Some days got messy with glue and paint, but that just added to the fun of seeing the children learn new forms of art!
