Mike Benton coached his alma mater to the state football championship game this season. The Russellville Panthers fell just short of their goal, being edged 30-27 by Pikeville. The game was played on the same UK field where he started for two seasons. Less than 24 hours later, he has put his thoughts to words.
Still hurting…. Every bit of me. I wanted this so bad for these guys! The amount of fight for them to come back and give ourselves a chance to win this game, makes me so damn proud!! I felt I let them down in the first half with my defensive play calls, which is exactly why this hurts like so!
But to each and everyone one of y’all who have texted, called, messaged, whatever the case and telling me I have nothing to be upset about and every reason to be proud…. You all are extremely right.
Back in college I had a dream of going to the NFL, making millions and giving back to my community in order to make it a better place. Of course, that didn’t happen. God had a different plan for me. Didn’t realize in order to make my community a better place that I’d truly be used as a physical vessel to do so!
How close knit this community has become this football season makes me beyond proud to be from RVK! I want nothing more but for all us to come together to help these kids out. Sports, academics, just in general to let them know we care about them and love them so that they can pass it down into the community and keep this going. We are all we got! It takes a village!! Thank you to
All of y’all who came to games this year, watched streams, took flights and drove hours. I truly appreciate y’all!
Solely on a football note, proud of how we competed all year! Russellville is BACK ON THE MAP and the respect is restored. Promise y’all got me here for a long time and we will be back Wayyy Sooner than Later!! Got my word on that!
