Logan County Adult Literacy Program recently received a $6,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Organization to support its literacy programs. Specifically, the grant will provide a new GED Academic Exam Delivery room.
It is for the community, administration, facility, staff and students and will provide relevant testing services for all individuals within the operating constraints of the facility and the community. In fulfilling this purpose, the exam delivery room center plays a vital role in supporting the center’s mission to aid in students’ success by designing and implementing testing procedures that effectively impact their education growth, career vision and life goals.
In January 2014, the GED test comprises of computer-based testing, one of the most important advancements in providing greater access to this life-changing exam. By being awarded this grant, the Logan County center will meet the guidelines that are needed to qualify to be a Pearson VUE testing center. This grant will purchase six new desktop computers, a security system, and new desks that will house these computers.
“This is very exciting for our center. If we had not received this grant, our students would have to travel to a Pearson VUE testing center, which is at least 30 miles away. The new testing center offers greater accessibility and flexibility, streamlines deliver, is a highly secure test environment, presents quicker turnaround time for results, and offers better customer service for test takers,” stated Sharyl Markham, ABE/GED Instructor and ELL Director.
Logan County Adult Literacy Program’s mission is to provide a learning environment where adults can continue to learn and become more productive and responsible in our community, to create a safe and welcoming environment for students, and to provide the opportunity for students to attain the knowledge and skills necessary for learning and to become self-sufficient, contributing citizens in society.
