Although many long-time Logan Countians and South Union Shaker Village enthusiasts were looking forward to seeing a reprisal of the Land of Logan classic outdoor drama Shakertown Revisited this summer on the deGraffenried Auditorium stage, not enough of them were willing to pledge the time and devotion needed to appear in the production.
Director Larry Vaught has announced that plans for presenting the play in late June have been canceled, at least for now.
“We had a small group of people to come out to audition—a lot of good talent, but not enough to do a quality job for such an important musical work about Logan County,” Vaught tells The LoJo. “I am hopeful that we can reach out to those who came out and do an alternative production with the hope that we can ‘grow’ a new generation of actors and that we might reconsider the play at a future time.”
Plans had been underway to have a cast(s) reunion of those who had performed in the play in the middle of the 20th century in conjunction with this year’s production, and that was in jeopardy for a while, but no longer.
“THE REUNION IS ON!” South Union Shaker Village Executive Director Tommy Hines has announced.
“Regardless of the fact that the pageant Shakertown Revisited will not take place this year, we will still have our reunion on Saturday, July 1! Buffet lunch will be served in the 1875 Grain Barn at noon, so be sure to call (1-270-542-4167) and make reservations ($15 each) before June 23. Many thanks to Auburn Leather for sponsoring this event.”
