It’s been 714 days since Logan County has lost a regular season football game. The Cougars don’t intend for that streak to end tonight.

Coach Todd Adler’s team will go to the Stadium of Champions to meet the Hopkinsville Tigers, the only team to beat LCHS since Oct. 16, 2016.

Logan County is 6-0 this season after going 11-1 last year. Hopkinsville is a disappointing 1-5.

Logan County is outscoring opponents 316-58. The Cougars have scored the most points by any Class 4A team and have given up the fewest. Hopkinsville is being outscored 181-79. Only five Class 4A team have scored fewer points.

Veteran sportscaster Todd Hamilton, who covers teams in the Hopkinsville area, explains the Tigers’ offensive woes this way: “Their quarterback, Jay Bland, suffered a torn ACL in the Christian County game. Ellis Dunn was moved from wide receiver to quarterback. Just taking time to get him comfortable with the offense.

Last year Logan won 13-12 in the regular season game at LCHS but lost the regional semifinals 43-8.

In that regular season win last year, sophomore quarterback Tyler Ezell dived into the end zone as time expired on the game clock to give the Cougars a 13-12 win over visiting Hopkinsville. Logan's defense was tough all night, holding the Tigers to four field goals, including on two possessions that began inside the Cougar 10 on turnovers.

Logan only ran 15 plays the entire first half, but marched 75 yards on the opening possession of the second half and 73 yards on the final possession of the game. Gary Hardy did his best running on that opening drive and scored from a yard out. Ezell kicked the conversion for what proved to be the winning point.

That was Hopkinsville’s last loss of the 2017 season until falling in the regional finals to eventual state champion Franklin-Simpson.

The loss is the only one the Cougars have suffered in their last 19 games.

Game time is 7 p.m. The father-son duo of Andy and Zack Woodall will broadcast the game over WRUS 610 AM and 94.1 FM along with the station’s website and mobile app.
