Dalton Thompson’s rim rattler to start the game was symbolic of what was to come. A win in the first boys Clash of the Cats this season proved to be a slam dunk for the Logan County Cougars Friday.
The Cougars were too strong, too deep, too experienced for the visiting Russellville Panthers in a 72-37 LCHS victory.
Logan built a 34-6 lead during the second quarter and earned a running block in the third quarter at 60-25.
The two-armed offensive machine of senior Jay Hardison and junior Anthony Woodard outscored the young Panthers 41-37. Thompson finished with 11.
Hardison hit five 3-pointers and both of his free throws on the way to 21 points. The athletic Woodard added 20 points against his former team.
Jaquis Todd led Coach Carlos Quarles’ Panthers with 14 points. Kendahl Edmonds added 9 and Devan Kimbrough 8.
Coach John Tinsley’s Cougars improved to 12-3 overall and 3-0 in defense of their 13th District championship.
