SWIMMING -
The Cougars competed at the Owensboro Health Park this weekend in the Region 2 championship, placing 10th in the combined Men and Women's ranking.
Coach Jonathan Hindman reports:
I am so proud of the unity and dedication that these swimmers have shown throughout this season. Going to Bowling Green five days a week, getting home at 8 every evening, two-a-days on Tuesdays and Thursdays, swimming at least three miles a practice (translates roughly to running nine miles). This has been a challenging year, but every single one of them has stepped up to it!
During prelims on Friday there were a total of 18 personal best times swum, dropping time like a coat in the summertime.
Junior Hailey Burgess concluded her first year of competitive swimming, going 32.61 in the 50 free, and 1:14.93 in the 100 Free.
Sophomore Madelyn Burgess qualified for finals in the 200 Free with a time of 2:34.75 and an excellent swim in the 100 back with a time of 1:23.09. During Finals Maddie gave an excellent performance in the 200 Free, placing 16th overall.
Freshman Aiden Dilliha pushed his limits in the 50 and 100 Free in Prelims, qualifying for finals in both events with a 25.39 and 57.31. During Finals Aiden continued to drop time, placing 10th overall in both the 50 with a time of 24.68 and 100 with a time of 56.03.
Eighth grader Colin Dilliha put up a solid showing in the 200 Free and 100 Back. dropping time in both events.
Senior Ethan Dukes qualified in both the 200 free and 100 fly. During Finals ,Ethan placed 4th in the 200 Free setting the new team record of 1:54.83! Ethan placed 12th in the 100 Fly as well.
Seventh Grader Leah Dukes qualified in her first High School Regional swim meet in the 100 Free and a solid drop of time in her 50 Free. During Finals, Leah placed 15th in the 100 Free with a new personal best time of 1:08.76.
Junior Sarah Gill broke her own school record in the 200 Free with a time of 2:12.13. She also qualified in the 100 Backstroke. During Finals, Sarah placed 5th overall in the 200 Free and 9th overall in the 100 Back, out-pacing her Heat.
Joseph Gloyd had a strong finish to his season in with a respectable drop in his 50 Free
Sophomore Kayson Mann left everything in the pool during Prelims in the 100 Breastroke and 200 IM.
Seventh Grader Neal Winchester won his heat in the 100 Free with a time of 1:22.24, dropping over 5 seconds. Continuing the dropping theme, he dropped over a second in the 50 Free.
Both the boys and girls 200 medley and 200 Freestyle Relays made it back to finals on Saturday. The girls 200 Medley relay had a drop of over 9 seconds, placing 10th overall.The girls 200 Free Relay placed 16th.
Both the girls relays were composed of Sarah Gill, Maddie Burgess, Hailey Burgess , and Leah Dukes.
The boys 200 Medley Relay shaved off over 2 seconds placing 11th overall.
The boys 200 Free Relay took off 7 seconds, placing 8th.
Both the boys relays were composed of Ethan Dukes, Colin Dilliha, Aiden Dilliha, and Kayson Mann.
BOYS BASKETBALL –
Friday the Cougars hosted the Todd County Central Rebels. The last time these two teams met at Todd County, the Cougars were handed a 70-48 loss. Things were much different this time with the Cougars almost getting the win in an overtime loss 58-54. These boys are getting better and better.
The Cougars hosted Apollo on Saturday and knocked down the win 54-39 over the Eagles. The Cougars are back in action tonight at Dawson Springs.
GIRLS BASKETBALL –
The Lady Cougars avenged an earlier season loss (60-47) to Todd County by taking the victory 44-43.with a win. During the game, Logan County Lady Cougar Gracie Borders earned herself a spot in the "1000 Point Club". Congrats on hitting that milestone!! The Lady Cougars will be in action also tonight as they travel to Butler County.
ARCHERY -
The LCHS Archery team travelled to Muhlenberg County Saturday for another BIG State Qualifier. There were 10 high school teams in attendance with almost 1000 archers total in all divisions. The Cougars finished 2nd by 12 points with a 3346. This is only the second time this season that the Cougars have lost to Butler County. Senior Isaac Stanley was the Top Overall Shooter with a 293 and Freshmen Cameran Davenport finished 4th with a 284.
