After playing 20 holes, Logan County senior Hunter Holloway came within a putt of qualifying for the state golf tournament this fall. The Cougar standout tied for the final berth in the state individual tournament before being edge in a playoff.
On Monday, Sept. 23, the LCHS golf team participated in the Boys Regional Tournament at Indian Hills Country Club in Bowling Green.
This is how Coach Will Rosser describes the day:
“The Cougars had been playing great golf the last several weeks with high hopes going into the tournament. However, it wasn't meant to be on this day as the Cougars struggled to get very much momentum going. The Cougars would shoot a team score of 321 and finish 7th in the team competition.
“The Cougars were led by Senior Hunter Holloways 78(+7, T16), Junior Riley Shepherd's 80(+9, T26), Sophomore Davis Switzer's 81(+10, T32), Junior Karson Rodgers' 82(+11, 35th) and Junior Zach Krohn's 85(+14, T43).
“Hunter's score of 78 was good enough to put him in a six-man playoff to see who got the final qualifying spot in next week's state tournament. On the first hole of the playoff, Hunter hit a great drive and second shot onto the green; he would end up making par along with an opponent from South Warren, and the remaining four were all eliminated.
“On the second playoff hole, this time the South Warren player was sitting pretty on the green with Hunter just off the putting surface, Hunter would chip up and then have to putt before the South Warren player would have to play. Hunter's hit a great putt that slid ever so slightly by the hole, his opponent would then two-putt for par and win the playoff on the second hole. Hunter became the alternate for state.”
