Saturday night, Russellville Wrestling celebrated its first season with an awards dinner and ceremony. Coach Jeramy Rust wrote, “To say we have something special at Russellville would be an understatement. Thanks to all who helped make this night and program a success. Only going up from here!”
Board of Education Chairman James Milam and his wife Clarkie attended the banquet. He said, “The opportunity to attend the inaugural Russellville Independent Schools wrestling banquet last night was reassuring and rewarding. The responses to a survey of students revealed a significant interest in development of a wrestling program for our students. The school board unanimously said ,’Let's go for it.’
“I know that many have attended athletic events and been proud of the effort, but not so proud of conduct. The behavior of these students without exception was a model. At this gathering, we saw respect, politeness, caring, values, and sincerity.
“In short, this was a remarkable event. These students are great athletes, and in their good behavior excel. The students love their leaders, and the respect goes both ways. Thank you all for being an exemplary PANTHER.”
