Logan Middle footballers to play for West squad Sunday

Seven Logan County Middle School football players will suit up for the West team which will play the East squad in the East vs. West Kentucky Middle School Football Game at Kentucky State University Sunday. Three of the coaches are also from Logan County.

Logan Coach Todd Adler had the honor of being selected head coach for the West Eighth Graders. Two of his Cougar assistants, Derek Jackson and Josh Osborne, will assist him at state, too. Eighth grade all-stars are Tyler Ezell, Gary Hardy, and Devon Barnes.

Ezell was named Cougar Pride Player of the Year and Offensive MVP at a recent banquet. He rushed for 1,155 yards and 25 touchdowns during the season on 114 carries. Additionally, he completed 49 of 109 passes for 1,032 yards and 8 touchdowns. Combined that’s 2,187 yards of total offense, resulting in 22 TDs.

Barnes was named Defensive MVP. He was credited with 64 tackles, including 27 for a loss, 7 of which were sacks. He also forced 12 fumbles.

Hardy received the Mr. Big Hit Award.

Cougars named seventh grade all stars are Braxton Baptiste, Kaleb Ferguson, Thomas Kash and Zack Yates. Kash won the Big Man on Campus Award at the banquet.

“This is a great opportunity for these kids to show their talents against some of the best players from around the state of Kentucky,” Adler says. “I am honored to be able to coach these eighth graders one more time this season. I’m so proud of the hard work and dedication these young men have showed all season long and know it will pay off for them to be honored as an all-star.”

As previously announced by The LoJo, Anthony ‘Rooster’ Woodard of Russellville will also be on the seventh grade team.

The games will be played on Sunday, Nov. 29. The seventh graders will play at noon Eastern time, and the eighth graders will play afterwards, starting about 2 p.m.

Others awards presented at the Logan banquet were as follows: Most Improved—Ashton Gregory, Iron Man—Carson Bradley, Big Play Award—Nathaniel Vick, and Unsung Hero—Jarrett Sears.

The Cougars finished the season with a 7-4 record. Along the way they recorded the first playoff win in the history of the middle school football program at Logan County.
