The Logan County Cougars picked up a pair of road wins in three days, one a nail-biter and the other a blowout.

Coach Ethan Meguiar’s team edged Metcalfe County 7-5 Monday and then blasted Allen County-Scottsville 10-0 Monday.

The Cougars scored two runs in the top of the sixth for their margin of victory at Edmonton. Then senior starter Michael Riley got the win with a pair of shutout innings in relief. He struck out a trio of Hornets in the process.

Sophomore Austin Rayno went 3 for 3 plus a walk and scored all four times. He singled in the first and fifth innings and doubled in the sixth. He also stole three bases. That double was the only extra-base hit for the Cougars among their 13 safeties.

Kaleb Justice had 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Riley had a pair of hits, an RBI and a run scored. Bradley Taylor, Jackson Campbell and Dylan Penick got the other hits. Taylor and Ashton Ross scored. Taylor walked 3 times with Nick Wooden, Hunter Crafton and Penick also walking. Campbell and Wooden added RBIs.

Crafton was the starting pitcher. Only 2 of the 5 runs he allowed were earned. He gave up 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 4.

Jack Dial had 3 hits and scored 3 runs for Metcalfe. Gage Edmonds added 2 hits. Spencer Noe pitched a complete game but lost for Coach Winston Harbison‘s team.

Logan scored in five of the seven innings during the shutout of AC-S. Jordan Hendrix came up big in his first appearance on the mound since signing to pitch for Lindsey-Wilson College. He gave up no runs on just 3 hits and 2 walks while fanning 5 Patriots. Of the 77 pitches he threw, 52 were strikeouts, and 19 of his first pitches to 26 batters were strikes.

Rayno had another big game with 2 hits, including a homer, and 4 runs scored. Justice doubled among his 3 hits and had 3 RBIs. Taylor had 4 hits with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Riley also had 3 hits and 2 runs scored.

Wooden added 2 hits while Campbell and Beard added 1 each. Beard and Third Bell walked. Taylor, Campbell, Rayno and Wooden each stole a base.

Sheldon Peay, Chris Brown and Taylor Roark each got a hit for Coach Scott Stamper‘s Patriots. Starting pitcher Zack Sowers gave up 3 runs on 3 hits and a walk while managing to record only a pair of outs. Peay, Zack Ausbrooks, Brown and Chase Wilson all pitched in the loss.

The wins moved the Cougars’ record to 6-2 going into Tuesday’s Clash of the Cats.
