Stories on The Logan Journal related to education were the most popular in 2015. Five of the 10 most ‘Liked’ stories were about schools, which expanded to 12 out of the top 30. Since most of the sports articles involved students, that number grew to 18 of 30

Readers of The LoJo are invited to click Like if they find a story interesting. Of the 529 articles which appeared on the online newspaper last calendar year, 175 drew 50 or more likes

The most popular article by far was about Logan County High School baseball star Caleb Bruner being named a first-team Louisville Slugger All-American. With 775 Likes, the story drew almost 50 percent more clicks than did the second place article. That one was the success story of Mike Jackson, who has built his Ski Daddy’s restaurant into a local favorite.

The education story popularity began with third place Adairville’s being named a School to Watch for the fifth time, most in state history. Other school stories in the top 10 were Russellville High School’s honoring cancer-battling student athlete Dillon Porter, the Auburn Honor Roll, Kayla Hazel’s WKU scholarship, and Wesley Estes’ being named state FFA president.

In addition to Bruner, sports articles in the top 10 were about plans for an Alumni Clash of the Cats and the naming of the second class Cougar Athletic Foundation Hall of Fame.

The only other story in the top 10 besides Ski Daddy’s that was neither school nor sports was about former Beaver morning personality Myla Porter joining the on-air staff of WRUS.

Other individuals spotlighted in top 30 stories were the late Coach Gerald Sinclair, Tara Gilbert, Jackson Caudill, Ryan and Matt Harper, John Logan Dockins, Ian Woodall, Coach Steve Duncan, Brian White, Dr. Gary Hughes and Michael Zerotignt,

Guest writers who had stories in the top 10 were Jenna Simmons, Lindsay Turner, Ben Kemplin, Dr. Kevin Hub and Amy Hallman.

In fact, 29 writers had a total of 40 articles liked. Leaders were Simmons with four, Ryan Craig and Kemplin with three each, and Penni Nugent, Mark Brooks, Sarah Hatton and Kim McDaniel with two each.

Other guest writers who attracted readers’ applause were Hub, Hallman, Lindsay Turner, David Brooks, Mallory Ervin, Carrie Shanklin, Jon Jukes, Carol Kimmel, Amy Marsh Clark, Kaye Hendricks, Melinda Grinsley-Smith, Linda Hatler, Deborah Davenport, Kristina Rice, Michael Romans, Todd and Dedra Adler, Al Smith, Leon Smith, John Wright, Melanie Manley and Elaine Ezell.

Surprisingly, stories about football and basketball not involving alumni were not among the most popular. The top football story was about player CoCo Darden and Coach John Myers being named to the Kentucky squad in the Border Bowl. The most Liked basketball story finished 57th. It was about Coach Lonnie Mason’s Cougars getting their biggest margin of victory ever over the Panthers.
