Jessica Dukes and Kira Binkley had the honor of being the top academic students of the 2016 graduating class of Logan County High School when commencement exercises were held at WKU’s Diddle Arena this spring.
The valedictorian was Jessica Dukes, the daughter of Lyla Dupree and Chris Dukes. She completed her course of study at LCHS with a weighted GPA of 4.31, while taking eight AP classes and three dual credit classes through Western Kentucky University and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.
Kira Binkley was salutatorian of the Class of 2016. Kira is the daughter of Doug and Sandy Binkley. She has completed her course of study at LCHS with a weighted GPA of 4.28, while taking five AP and eight dual credit courses through WKU and KCTCS.
Student Council President Mason Hayes also spoke. She is the daughter of Tiffany and Les Hayes.
Honored for perfect attendance this year were Brooke Barnes, Bethany Bush, Holly Foster, Rachel Hines, Kenton Howard, Cierra Johnson, Griffen Newell, Garrison Rosser, Russell Sayne, Autumn Todd, Elizabeth Vanzee and Audrey Wells.
Those with perfect attendance for four years were Barnes and Johnson while Foster and Rosser were recognized for not missing a day beginning in the seventh grade.
Seven graduates were recognized for enlisting in the military. They are future Marines—Addison Stewart, Bobby Snoddy, Zoey Shockley, Stevie Hardaway and Melissa Brown—along with future Kentucky National Guard members Andrew Norris and David Duran.

Band Director David Dayton led the award-winning LCHS Concert Band in playing “Blue and Green.” The band also played the National Anthem while the JROTC presented the colors.
