The Logan County track teams competed last Thursday at the regional championships in Elizabethtown. “We knew moving up to AAA would be a big step and it proved to be a little bigger than we wanted,” says Coach Greg Howard. “I’m proud of our kids as they fought hard and gave their all. Things didn’t exactly go the way we wanted but our kids still managed some personal records.”
Levi Crossley had a personal record in the 3200 while fellow junior Kelly Eicher had his best time ever in the 1600. Cody Meacham had his best throws ever in the shot and the discus.
Seniors Joe McGinnis and Michael Sydnor earned trips to state in their respective events. Michael qualified for the third straight year in the triple jump while Joe is going to state as regional runner up in the discus and just missed qualifying in the shot. Both of Joe’s efforts in both events were career bests. “Joe is so impressive in learning his technique and doing so as a part-time track athlete while competing for the LCHS tennis squad. I’m glad Joe decided to give track a try,” Howard said.
On the girls side Bre Baptiste struggled with a foot injury and” still competed like a champion,” Howard notes. She finished 6th in the 100 and 200, while placing 4th in the 400 and the long jump. Eight graders Leah Crossley and Meredith Johnson gave their all as Leah finished 10th in the 1600M and Meredith finished 10th in the 100, 7th in the 200, and 5th in the 400. These young girls have a very bright future in running. Howard believes..
Deja Thompson took her skills to another level as she had her career bests in the shot (3rd) and discus (7th) and will be going to Lexington and the University of Kentucky to compete in the shot. She has taken off with her technique in a short period of time and is now on the big stage competing in the KHSAA State Track and Field Championships this weekend.
Others who competed for Logan included Brad Aubrey, Andrew Gregory, Matthew Scales, Cory Ford and Kaleb O’Dell.
