A day after being named first team all-conference, No. 25 WKU quarterback Brandon Doughty was voted Conference USA’s Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive season, becoming the first player to ever win the award in back-to-back seasons.
He also joined Houston’s Case Keenum as the only two players to win the award multiple times. It marked the seventh time a quarterback has been named MVP in the last eight seasons.
Following his record-setting year last season, Doughty has continued to tear up the record books in 2015, becoming No. 25 WKU's all-time leader for career passing yards (12,394), completions (991) and attempts (1,447). He currently ranks 24th in FBS history in career yards and 16th in touchdowns, passing greats like Andrew Luck, Dan Marino, Peyton Manning and Doug Flutie in those marks along the way.
Doughty leads the FBS this season in completion percentage (71.8), touchdowns (45) and points responsible for (286), while ranking second in passing yards (4,594). He is just the third quarterback in FBS history to have consecutive seasons with 4,000 passing yards and 40 touchdowns as he led No. 25 WKU to its first conference championship and first national ranking at the FBS level.
In the C-USA Championship Game, Doughty was named the MVP after throwing for 410 yards, the third-most in a C-USA Championship Game, and three touchdowns and scoring his first rushing touchdown of the season. He joined the illustrious group of just 16 FBS quarterbacks to ever throw for 12,000 yards and 100 touchdowns in their careers.
Doughty will return to South Beach on Dec. 21 to lead the Hilltoppers into the Miami Beach Bowl against South Florida, which is slated for a 1:30 p.m. CT kick from Marlins Park.
